Exploring Technologies TIJ1O1

This course enables students to further explore and develop technological knowledge and skills introduced in the elementary science and technology program. Students will be given the opportunity to design and create products and/or provide services related to the various technological areas or industries, working with a variety of tools, equipment, and software commonly used in industry. Students will develop an awareness of environmental and societal issues, and will begin to explore secondary and postsecondary education and training pathways leading to careers in technology-related fields.

Design Technological – Engineering TDJ2O1

This course provides students with opportunities to apply a design process to meet a variety of technological challenges. Students will research projects, create designs, build models and/or prototypes, and assess products and/or processes using appropriate tools, techniques, and strategies. Student projects may include designs for homes, vehicles, bridges, robotic arms, clothing, or other products. Students will develop an awareness of environmental and societal issues related to technological design, and will learn about secondary and postsecondary education and training leading to careers in the field.

U/C – Technological Design: Architectural Design, University/College TDA3M1

Students interested in Architecture and Home design will develop and apply architectural research, design ,computer aided design, drafting and build skills to develop working drawings for a mid sized dream home and vacation home. They will also build an architectural model of the vacation home they have designed. An awareness of environmental issues related to architectural design and exploration of career opportunities as well as college, university program requirements is also dealt with in this program.
This course is the same as TDJ3M and a student may not earn a credit in both.

U/C – Technological Design – Engineering, University/College TDR3M1

Students interested in post-secondary education in engineering technology or manufacturing will have the opportunity to further develop design skills, advanced CAD and 3D Modelling techniques using Autodesk Inventor software will be covered. The course also looks at mechanical systems and project management skills through a series of hands on design and build projects (e.g. pneumatics, magnetic levitation, 3D printing, CNC machining and both gravitational and mechanical motion). Students will research, design, build and assess solutions to assigned problems using working software generated drawings and other communication methods to present their design ideas. They will develop an awareness of environmental, societal, and cultural issues related to technological design, and will explore career opportunities in the field, as well as college and/or university program requirements for them.

U/C – Portfolio Development; Emphasis – Rendering Techniques And Architectural Illustration AWT4MI

This self-directed course is designed for students interested in developing their portfolios for post-secondary programs such as fine arts, photography, animation, architecture, interior design and graphic design. Students will select and design projects using a variety of media with their post-secondary program in mind. Projects may include; drawing in pencil and coloured pencil, pen and ink, acrylic painting, oil painting, figure drawing, monoprints, clay sculpture, mixed media, watercolour pencils, photography, printmaking and video-editing. Interview preparation is also provided in this course

U/C – Technological Design: Architectural Design, University/College TDA4M1

Students interested in a post –secondary career in architecture, construction or engineering will select and design two architectural based design/build projects complete with detailed drawings in the areas of : i) residential structures ii) commercial buildings iii) public space design.
Students will employ a design process using research, design, build and solution assessment that meets specific human needs. This will be accomplished using design sketches, presentation drawings, working drawings, architectural models and other communication methods to present their designs. Students will also further explore career opportunities and post secondary education options.

U/C – Technological Design – Engineering and Manufacuring, University/College TDR4M1

Students considering post-secondary studies in engineering, college technical programs or manufacturing apprenticeships will gain valuable experience in: advanced design processes, project management, AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor (3D modelling), CNC mill operation and basic lathe operation through the design and fabrication of design solutions to complex challenges (e.g. Vernier scale, pneumatics, magnetic levitation, 3D printing, CNC machining and both gravitational and mechanical motion). Students will apply a systematic design process to research, design, build, and assess solutions that meet specific human needs, using illustrations, presentation drawings, and other communication methods to present their designs. Students will enhance their problem solving skills, and explore career opportunities and the post-secondary education and requirements for them.
