Hairstyling and Aesthetics TXJ2O1

This course presents hairstyling, make-up, and nail care techniques from a salon/spa perspective. Using materials, processes, and techniques used in the industry, students learn fundamental skills in hairstyling, giving manicures and facials, and providing hair/scalp analyses and treatments. Students will also consider related environmental and societal issues, and will explore secondary and postsecondary pathways leading to careers in the field of hairstyling and aesthetics.
Topics include:
Proper physical and attitude development
How to control related diseases
How to properly care for feet ,hands and nails
Composition of the skin and review of the different types of skin.
Learn how to do a basic cleansing facial.
Application and corrective techniques

Hairstyling and Aesthetics: Hairstyling TXH3EI

This course provides students with opportunities to learn techniques in hairstyling and aesthetics that meet industry standards, using appropriate materials and equipment. Students will identify trends in the hairstyling and aesthetics industry; describe scientific and physical processes used in services such as hair cutting, hair colouring, and permanent waving. They will also learn to respect environmental, health, and safety laws; and explore career opportunities. This course will emphasize hairstyling.

Hairstyling and Aesthetics: Hairstyling TXH4EI

This course builds on the Grade 11 course to provide a solid foundation for students wishing to pursue a career in cosmetology. Students will continue to develop practical skills and knowledge pertaining to the beauty industry. They will also gain an awareness of the entrepreneurial skills required to own and operate a salon. The course will focus on hairstyling with some aesthetics.

CREDIT EQUIVALENTS: TXH4ET – OYAP (Concentrated): Hairstyling and Aesthetics is a similar course and you will not receive credit for taking both.

OYAP (Concentrated): Hairstyling and Aesthetics TXH4ET

This unique, 3 period Grade 12 course in cosmetology is designed to give the student an in depth study of cosmetology as an employable profession. At the Grade 12 level, students are required to track their areas of competency using the Hairstylist Apprenticeship Training Standard Competency Analysis Profile. Furthermore, this course outline will strictly follow the mandatory training units in the Hairstylist Apprentice Training Standards set by the Ontario Training Adjustment Board for those students wishing to pursue an apprenticeship. Independent students and customer services will be emphasized throughout the course.
COURSE NOTE: This program is available for a limited number of students who must be accepted based on an OYAP interview. Current academic progress, attendance and student readiness will be factors that determine eligibility. Students must also be successfully accepted into coop to qualify for the program. This program will only run if there are enough Hairstyling classes at the grade 10 and 11 level to support the OYAP students for 3 periods in semester 1. (It is not guaranteed that this program will run).
