RESURRECTION STATEMENT OF NON-TOLERANCE

OUR VISION

Members of our school community have the right to feel welcome, secure and safe while carrying out their respective duties.  Administration will use the School Board document “For the Safety of All” in enforcing all disciplinary situations.

The following behaviour on school property or in school-sponsored activities is not consistent with a safe and secure school environment:

  • The use, possession or sale of alcohol or illicit drugs or related paraphernalia
  • The possession or use of weapons or replicas, knives, or items which are intended to be used as a weapon;
  • Any physical assault, threats of assault or intimidation;
  • Any gang / youth group displaying a pattern of delinquent or disruptive activity;
  • Any sexual, ethnocultural and/or racial abuse, slurs or harassment. Harassment includes: gossip, jokes, innuendoes, teasing and obscene gestures;
  • Dissemination of  material electronic or otherwise impacting the mental well being of students or staff;
  • At Resurrection we call on all to take ownership for the well being of our community.  If you are aware of a safety concern of any nature, please contact administration

Bill 157:

As of February 1st, 2010 this Bill helps ensure the support of all staff members as it relates to bullying prevention, intervention and the positive culture of our school community. All staff members are to respond and report all negative activities in a timely manner. This Bill has put into place a formal process for reporting activities that have a negative impact on the school climate.

 

A positive school climate is crucial in creating a positive learning environment.  To help achieve this desired environment schools across the province are actively promoting and supporting good behaviour that reflects positive character development.  For RCSS, creating this positive learning environment also includes involving the parents and the broader community.  In the Policy Memorandum, it states specifically that for our approach toward progressive discipline and a positive learning culture to be successful, all students, parents, staff, and the broader community members should know and understand this Bill and what we are doing to keep our school safe and positive for all.

 

“Bullying”: is a behaviour for which students can be suspended.

 

Bullying is defined by the Ministry as “repeated, persistent, and aggressive behaviour directed at an individual or individuals that is intended to cause fear and distress and/or harm to another person’s body, feelings, self-esteem or reputation.”

 

Bullying is further defined as taking on different forms:

physical, verbal, or social.

 

The Ministry definition also recognizes cyber-bullying.  The definition states bullying “may also occur through the use of technology” such as e-mail, cell phones, text messaging, Internet website, or other technology.

Do not suffer in silence.  Talk to your parents, teachers, Youth Care Worker, Chaplain, Guidance Counsellor or school administrator.  By speaking to someone you trust, your complaint will be taken seriously and acted upon.  You could also help others by coming forward with your concerns.
