Evaluating resources using the SIFT method ~ Remember, when searching for information on the Internet, EVALUATE the sources you’re finding… who publishes the site? what are their credentials? is it up-to-date? reliable? accurate? The SIFT method gives you some pointers on how to approach this.
- Britannica ImageQuest ~ Access to nearly 3 Million rights-cleared images! (ask Ms. Martin or your teacher for the username/password)

Opposing Viewpoints in Context ~ viewpoint articles, topic overviews, full-text magazines, academic journals, news articles, primary source documents, statistics, images, videos, audio files and links to vetted websites
- If your topic is Canadian, CPIQ or Canada in Context would be a better starting point
- Canadian Points of View from EBSCO is another great Canadian source, very similar to Opposing Viewpoints (see the Research steps document for username/password)
- eBooks~ eBooks, including the Gale Encyclopedia of Psychology, the Gale Encyclopedia of Mental Health, Mental Health Information for Teens, and more!
- Principles of Sociology by Salem Press ~ different publisher than Gale, but same password; includes 3 volumes: Personal Relationships & Behavior, Group Relationships & Behavior, and Societal Issues & Behavior
- a great starting point, with newspaper & magazine articles, reference books, recommended web site, statistics, and more
- PowerSearch ~ searches across all Gale databases
- Start by doing a Subject Guide Search (at the bottom of the page) to find your subject headings (or use “related subjects” that you’ve found)
- Combine your ideas using the Advanced Search
