A Message from our Leadership Team

by Chris Woodcroft

During Holy Week we are reminded of the hope that is approaching.  The Holy Triduum which encompasses Holy Thursday, Good Friday and our celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday is the essence of who we are as a Catholic people.  Although there are sometimes dark times there is always hope!  Spring is here (and hopefully the warm weather follows suit) and with it a renewed sense of optimism is flourishing.  Academically, we are at the Progress Report time which provides an opportunity to complete a ‘goals’ check for our students and staff.  Are we achieving at a level that we have set for ourselves?  Are we putting the time and effort in that is necessary for us to be successful?  Are we seeking out the opportunities that are available for extra support?  Are we striving to reach our God given potential?

Our Literacy Team has put together an extensive support network for all our students who will be writing the Ontario Secondary Schools Literacy Test on April 10th.  If you have a child in grade ten, please take a moment to visit our school website which has links on the first page.

We hope you had an opportunity to join us, before the March Break, to witness the Footloose Musical Production.  The musical was a tremendous success because of the outstanding staff leadership, the dedication

and skill exhibited by the cast and the enormous amount of time and effort put in by our Resurrection Light and Magic crew.  The positive comments that were expressed by so many parents and family members were greatly appreciated.  The next big event for our Art students takes place with our New York City trip in early May for our students involved in music, band and choir.  Our spring athletic season is well under way with tryouts happening in a variety of sports and our badminton team this past weekend hosted the 20th Anniversary of the Phoenix Invitational Badminton Tournament!

Spring planning is also well under way for a number of social justice initiatives including the We Walk for Water which will be held on Wednesday, April 25, March for Life which will take place on May 10th and the Relay for Life which will be held on Friday, May 25th.  This Thursday, March 29th we will have our Holy Thursday Liturgies and as always, parents are welcome to attend.

Wishing you all the blessing of the Easter!

Leisha Craftchick, Marisa Munroe and Chris Woodcroft

The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test is Coming Soon!

On Tuesday, April 10th, 2018, Grade 10 students across the province will write the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). It will also be written by students who were previously eligible but have not yet written the test or who were unsuccessful on their first attempt. The OSSLT is administered by the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO), an independent agency of the Government of Ontario, to determine whether students have acquired the minimum literacy (reading and writing) skills expected by The Ontario Curriculum across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9.

The test consists of two sessions, each containing multiple-choice and open-response questions. The test is given on one day in two 75-minute blocks. All the questions are based directly on the expectations set out in The Ontario Curriculum, which is what teachers teach in the classroom every day. Students can prepare as they would for any other secondary school test.

OSSLT results do not count toward students’ grades, but successful completion of the test is a requirement for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

Resurrection will follow a revised schedule for the test administration to ensure that our students writing the OSSLT will have a quiet environment to complete their literacy graduation requirement.
