Cellphone-Electronic Devices Policy 2017-06-01T14:15:29+00:00

Communication/ Electronics Devices:

Electronic devices such as cell phones, cameras and personal music devices are not permitted to be used in the classroom unless authorized by the teacher for the purpose of instruction.  Students who do bring electronic items to school are encouraged to leave them in their lockers.

New for 2013: For Lost or stolen devices A Waterloo Regional Police Services report can be completed in the main office. The school will not participate in these investigations.  To prevent theft, students should not bring valuable items or large sums of money to school.

SPECIFICALLY…

Cell phone/texting is permitted by students during non-instructional time (before school/travel to class/lunch/spares/after school/etc.)

and

NOT allowed during any instructional time unless at the discretion of the teacher and curriculum expectations (classroom/ teaching space/ assembly/ liturgy/etc.).

Any visible presence would indicate that they are being used.

Example of an infraction: a student walks across the threshold of a class finishing a text or call… this will result in a cell phone violation (see below for details).

Consequences for failing to follow the policy will be as follows:

1st offence

The student will bring and leave his/her device at the Main Office. It will be recorded as a first offence and he/she will be provided with a slip to get back into class.  The device will be returned to the student at the end of the school day.

2nd offence

The student will bring and leave his/her device at the Main Office where it will be recorded as a second offence. Parent/guardian will be contacted by school staff and notified of the infraction. Students will be provided with a slip to get back into class.  The device will be returned to the student at the end of the school day.

3rd offence

A one day suspension will be assigned. Any subsequent infractions will result in ongoing suspensions throughout the semester.

Refusal to co-operate with any part of this policy will result in a suspension.
